Description :-
Lattitude Global Volunteering is a charity specialising in volunteering for 17-25 year olds. We have a global vision and aim to provide unique experiences of voluntary work placements for young people from around the world.
Lattitude is an organisation with attitude. We are passionately concerned about the world and the issues facing us all. Above all, we are concerned about having a positive impact on the communities in which we volunteer.
Our aims are to:
Enable young people to experience the benefits of volunteering
Provide placements which allow young people to develop their skills and broaden their education
Help communities by providing volunteer support
Promote access to and awareness of the opportun ities associated with Lattitude Global Volunteering to all young people, regardless of background, providing bursary support if required
To enable the volunteer experience to create a greater awareness of development issues
Lattitude Global Volunteering aims to go beyond the comfort zone. Our volunteers want to make a difference. They want to have an impact and make a real contribution to society. They want to learn about the world in which they live. They are looking for excitement, travel, independence and friendship, within an ethical framework.
Lattitude provides that volunteering opportunity – the chance to go beyond the comfort zone and make a lasting difference.
The benefits of volunteering with Lattitude:
For the young people:
Our placements are a valuable educational experience for young people. The opportunity to live and work in a new culture and environment offers many opportunities to learn about the world we live in, promoting global citizenship
Our volunteers grow in independence and confidence - they develop new skills such as team working, cultural diversity awareness, managing resources and communication skills
A Lattitude volunteering placement engenders an international outlook and often a raised awareness of social, economic and environmental issues in the developing and developed world
A placement will often develop an individual’s commitment to volunteering which is of lasting benefit to the individual and the communities they return home. The effect Lattitude placements have on young people’s attitudes towards volunteering and helping others is clear from their end of placement reports
For our host communities:
Our host communities benefit from the time, energy and skills of our volunteers. We estimate that Lattitude volunteers contribute 80,000 volunteer hours world-wide per week
We work with the same communities over many years, helping to create a positive and sustainable impact on the local people
Our placements also help to foster understanding between different nations and cultures which can lead to a greater sense of global citizenship
Lattitude projects vary in work type, and last for 3 to 12 months. We currently run projects in the following fields: Community Care; Language Assistant; Conservation; Schools (Boarding); Schools (Teaching) and Outdoor Education
For all - accessibility
Lattitude strives to provide access to placements for all young people. We fundraise to keep costs to volunteers as low as possible, to reduce financial barriers to participation. Our volunteers pay only 80% of the costs we incur in delivering the service.
We have a track record of increasing the diversity of our volunteers - we are working hard to promote volunteering overseas as an option in schools in areas where there is no tradition of taking a ‘gap year’.
