Volunteering Solutions offers a unique opportunity for students groups to participate in the Construction program and help in rebuilding schools, homes, community centers in the city of Pisco. Pisco city was badly damaged by an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale in the year 2007.
Volunteers are needed to help rebuild as many as possible houses, schools, hospitals, etc for local families. The work will include various tasks such as helping to load bricks and mixing cement, demolishing the old houses and schools before they can be rebuilt, removing rubble and digging foundations for new houses.
This program can involve full days of work but schedules vary day to day. The minimum working hours is 8 daily from Monday to Friday.
The Constructio n Program is available only for Groups with minimum six members. This program is highly recommended for student groups.
Program Information
Program Requirements
Volunteers must be 18 years or older at the beginning of the program. Special skills are not required. However, volunteers should enjoy being outdoors, have an interest in manual labour and should not be afraid to get dirty. It is also mandatory to be in good health. Volunteers must not expect to work with automated machines as all the work is done manually.
Project Location
The project is located in the city of Pisco which is located in the Ica region of Peru.
What we provide
Airport Receive/ Transfer: Volunteers are picked up from the bus station in Pisco by the local coordinator or representative. Volunteers need to arrive in Lima and take a connecting bus to Pisco. It takes around three and a half hours to reach Pisco from there.
Orientation: A half day orientation will be provided by the local staff. Areas like culture, greetings, locations, transportation, safety and volunteer placements are given during the orientation. The orientation will be given by the local staff in Peru.
Lodging: Volunteers are provided accommodation in the volunteer residence in dorm style accommodations.
Food: Volunteers are provided with three cooked meals a day (Monday- Saturday) at the accommodations. Meals vary from day to day and generally include soups, vegetable salad, rice, potatoes, juice, dessert etc.
Insurance: All participants are covered for full comprehensive Travel and Medical insurance for their time of stay in our project.
In-country support: 24 hours support provided by our local staff. You will be provided with the contact details of the local coordinator and staff who will be contactable 24 hrs once you are in country.
Pre-departure information: After we receive full and final payment all participants are provided by a pre-departure information booklet by e-mail which will have all vital information about your program. The Pre Departure Information Booklet provides the complete details of the country, project locations, Visas, Immunizations, Things to Pack list, Accommodations, Contact Information etc.
